The winner of the Madrid derby ended up being the one who did not play, Barcelona. Atlético de Madrid had everything to get out of the derby being even more leader of LaLiga, but they did not sentence Real Madrid and that is a sin because no matter how bad the white team is, which was, it has the ability to resurrect when everything the world gives him up for dead.

After the draw at the Metropolitano, Atleti continues to lead, but only three points ahead of Barcelona and five points ahead of Real Madrid. It is true that Simeone's men have one game less, but the truth is that they missed a golden opportunity to leave the league championship almost sentenced.

Real Madrid saved a point in the Metropolitan against an Atleti that was better, especially in intensity in the first half that was from the rojiblancos. And it was because Simeone won the game, Zidane, especially in the center of the field in which Koke and Llorente did what they wanted. The same as Lemar and Carrasco on the left-wing where Lucas and Rodrygo, the starter, could never stop them.

Zidane trusted Benzema's return to find his way to the goal, but the one who found him was Luis Suárez, who in the 15th minute scored 1-0 with a great shot with the outside of his right foot. The Uruguayan culminated a great gallop by Marcos Llorente that between him and Luis Suárez left the entire Real Madrid defense in evidence.

That goal put the batteries to the whites, more than anything because they had no other option. Madrid took a step forward, but gave no sense of danger, quite the opposite of Atleti every time they approached Courtois' goal.

Simeone's were comfortable until the 41st minute arrived. Felipe's hand was claimed as a penalty by the white players. Hernández Hernández did not indicate anything, the VAR warned him. he went to check it and still did not call a penalty. That angered the whites who ended the first half thinking more about that refereeing decision than about what they were doing on the pitch.

After the break, Madrid came out with more intensity, well with the intensity that it had not had in the first half. Atlético, meanwhile, waited behind to seek the sentence against it and had it on a couple of occasions, but Courtois saved his own.

Zidane moved the team giving entry to Vinicius and Valverde for the disappeared Rodrygo and Marco Asensio. Madrid, against the clock, was looking for a draw while Simeone's men were still crouched waiting for their opportunity to sentence.

This was how the game was when in the 80th minute Benzema had a double chance to tie but Oblak's figure emerged to prevent it with two prodigious interventions. Madrid kept pushing and found the reward in the 88th minute with Benzema's 1-1 after a great play with Casemiro. Thus ended a derby in which Atleti let Real Madrid escape alive.

After the match, Benzema talks about the controversial penalty in the Atletico Madrid game against Real Madrid. Just check out the below video of what he said:
